Wow! This Series of Tubes is Amazing!
I'm not saying that I did this post from my sexy new iPhone while sitting in a field- but I totally did! I know I'm paragraphs behind, but I don't come from a first adoption kind of family. Call me naive but I can't help feeling a little like I'm on some weird Star Trek episode.
I mean seriously, all this wireless and internets business totally kicks ass.
Alright, enough bragging and amazement. I'm going back to work.
Does anyone know if these things work overseas?

Overseas: Yup. The iPhone is quad-band, so it works in Europe and also Asia (I've used mine so far in Thailand and Singapore). You have to tell ATT customer service though to turn on your international roaming. Also, it won't work in Japan, because *nothing* works in Japan except Japanese phones; they have some wacky frequency that no one else in the world uses.
Important: When you take it overseas, disable any auto-downloads, such as email, or the charges will kill you. Data roaming is much more expensive than voice roaming. (Why??)
(And yeah, me=early adopter: Bought mine on Day 1, but online - was so not going to stand in line with the fanbois...)

Maryn - good to know! I suppose that data roaming is why I've heard those $4000 bill horror stories...
His iPhone is so cool! I'm getting an LG shine later this week (these are the first "cool" phones of our lives) and am very excited!

Maryn beat me to it by a coupla days, but I think all ATT sold phones are at least Euro/Asia compatible.. their GSM network has the 4 bands thingy... that's how my little wonder nokia worked in Italy.... just pay 5 bucks/month for international access .. then try not to use it because the minutes are very very expensive !!! (but no roaming :-)

Thanks, auntie! He's still having so much fun with it. He told me yesterday that it's disappointing to see other people using theirs, as he likes to style himself as some sort of visitor from the future. :-)
