This decade completely snuck up on me.
Seriously, I spent most of 1999 worrying that I didn't have a bunker set up for the inevitable explosions that were sure to rain down on us as soon as the clock struck midnight on December 31st. You may remember that as it turned out there was no fiery helldeath, and it took the worldwide financial markets another 7 years to melt down. Logan and I ended up bringing the canned goods we'd stocked against the apocalypse along with us when we moved to Austin in 2001. It took me until 2008 to get rid of the last of the emergency cherry pie rations.
In comparison, 2009 was a bit of a worry-free cakewalk.
Anyway, I'm really, really bad at the year-end contemplative roundups, or roundups of any type, for that matter. This is going to make it a little difficult when our blog celebrates its FIFTH HOLY CRAP BIRTHDAY next February. But all in all, 2009 was a good year for us, and for the blog. Logan managed a movie in Hawaii, and I tagged along for a little while, blogging all the way. Addie Broyles of the Austin American-Statesman whipped the fledgeling Austin food blogging scene into some semblance of respectability, and some of Austin's awesomest restaurants sat up and took notice (and invited us out for lovely little snackies, often on their dime).
Because of this, we met some great people who'd been blogging right there alongside us in Austin, often for years, before foodblogging was hep. It feels like we've known some of these folks our entire lives. And people say blogging is a solitary endeavor.
We even ended the year on a solid upswing, with Boots in the Oven getting singled out by the Chronicle as one of Austin's 10 best (!) food blogs. Wow. Now that's humbling.
All in all, we're both really looking forward to 2010 and whatever it brings. Hopefully, that will be more travel, more food, and more photography. I'm going to tackle Project 365 again, for the second time - this go-around, the project will even have its own microblog, which will go live tomorrow.
A happy and healthy 2010 to all of you! I hope the new year brings with it all you could ever ask for. Thanks so much for reading, and commenting, and the support you've given us over the years. Lotth of thloppy kittheth to alla y'all!
