Let's see. Breakfast, coffee, art museum featuring the book of Genesis as drawn by R. Crumb - no, really - then... DRINKS!
Logan, his brother Brandon, and I ran into Clyde Common to get a quick drink before having to take off for the coast and the family reunion we'd flown out there to attend.
The place was very chic. However, I don't think they had their A game going that day; our bourbon-based drinks were really sweet, except for Brandon's unadulterated super-nice bourbon off their comprehensive list (btw, the one chalked up on the wall in there could use some updating.). And in a too unfortunate twist, they were out of both of their famed barrel-aged cocktail offerings! Yes, that's exactly what it sounds like - they make a barrel full of a cocktail like the Negroni and then age it in a wooden barrel for several months, letting the flavors meld and mellow. Clyde Common was a couple of weeks away from their new offerings, which made me sad sad sad.
The sexy zinc bar was very nice for bellying up to, though, and their food menu looks awfully enticing. I'm pretty much always down for swiss chard ravioli or roasted beets with pickled radishes and pistachio pesto, unless I'm in a major hurry like we were. Maybe next time.
Clyde Common is at 1014 SW Stark in Portland. 503.228.3333.

That sucks that they were off their game and out of the barrel aged! Best Negroni ever, I love that place.

Ooh, Swiss Chard Ravioli? I would make time. But maybe not if the drinks were off that day. Not a good sign.

Man, now I'm even more disappointed. That's it - BACK TO PORTLAND!

Yeah... and we were running really late to head out to the coast to meet Logan's family. Sigh.
I'm so glad to see you blogging from London!
