I've been dickering around for almost a freaking week about this Ayutthaya post, but every single way I wrote it was extra-lame. The pictures are way too cool to let them flitter off into the ether, though.
Here's a slideshow of the pictures we took in Ayutthaya, Thailand, capital from 1531 to 1767, when it was sacked by the Burmese. There are many beautiful Buddha statues scattered around the many sights in the city - some of them were burned and desecrated by the Burmese, but a few survived.
Mouse over the top of the slideshow to slow it down or speed it up. Clicking on any picture will give you the option of viewing it on Flickr, where I'm going to to input further information.

Maryn, we're so jealous! Unfortunately, I don't have any good information for you... we booked a day trip through our guesthouse in Bangkok (the Baan Sabai on Soi Rambuttri, which we did like) and lunch, such as it was, was included. We would have loved to spend more time there, but we were leaving the next morning to return to the States!

no worries! i kinda feel Thailand is like New Orleans, in that it is almost impossible to have a bad meal. even, like, roadside stands cobbled together out of battered lumber after the tsunami were awesome. but it's good to know that you can do Ayutthaya in a day trip, because that is what i may end up having to do - come back late, sleep for two hours, head to the airport...
