Wooo! Happy sweet, sweet Mardi Gras!
We don't have any beads and we showed very few people our breasts, but despite our shortcomings we had one helluva good time. Mainly with the eatings and drinkings.
We kicked off the evening with a round of Sazeracs, one of the most perfect drinks known to man. Rye whiskey, bitters, simple syrup and a nice absinthe rinse of the glass can get any party started. If you're ever in New Orleans stop by the Napoleon House and have Lenny whip you up one.
We followed this up with some celebratory gumbo. If you want to channel the spirit of Louisiana, it's hard to go wrong with a big bowl of this roux based duck, andouille, and okra stew. Don't forget the file'!
After we stuffed ourselves we paraded forth in the true spirit of Fat Tuesday and downed several pieces of King Cake each. Lagniappe bitches! Just because I spent like ten hours making it didn't mean it was any less delicious. Possibly more so; ask me tomorrow.
I hope you're all still up drinking and filled with merriment and revelry. Unless you're in New Orleans of course because the mounted police and street sweepers will have chased you all off into the nooks and crannies by now!
Laissez les bon temps rouler!

I've never liked King Cake but your description and pictures have made me do a 180. Question? Is there any King Cake left and if so, how soon can I come over for a slice?

Sure! I haven't had King Cake in years, so I don't know how traditional this is besides the coloring, but it is definitely delicious.
